News and the Christian
Many of us have a favorite source for news, and a favorite medium (newspaper? TV? On-line feed?)
Whatever your news source (and it’s important to carefully choose your news source), most of that news pertains to things beyond your daily life. It’s important to have your opinions on such subjects informed by Scripture; it is just as vital to have your attitudes and actions in daily life, toward the real people and situations you encounter daily, informed and shaped by Scripture. It’s one way Jesus is “working on us.”
I recently found this quote by C. S. Lewis:
Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what he is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on… but presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is He is building a quite different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage; but He is building a palace. He intends to come in and live in it Himself.
