The wettest July on record also brought flooding like we haven’t seen since 2011. The North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un threatened the US mainland with nuclear ballistic missiles. America’s longest war (Afghanistan) is approaching its third decade of involvement.
Are these things “signs of the times”? God’s prophetic calendar heralding Jesus’ return?
When the disciples asked Jesus about his return and the signs that would accompany it, he told them “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
Turmoil and natural convulsions aren’t “signs of the end,” they are just the normal course of life on our fallen planet, according to Jesus. He hasn’t called us to watch for signs, but he has called us to be “watchful” – to be faithfully obedient in daily life, ready for the day when he does return.
Part of that daily faithfulness is encouraging each other. You’ll notice in this newsletter that several Zion families have been touched by death. Thank you for being an encouragement to these families, and for continuing to “encourage each other daily” as we actively waitfor Jesus’ coming.
