The Beatitudes contain some of the world’s most sublime ethical teaching. Like the Ten Commandments, they often adorn our wall plaques and posters. We sometimes say to each other, “If only people would live by these, the world would be a much better place.”
But people who try to actually live by the Beatitudes find them difficult, literally impossible to maintain over a lifetime. Did Jesus really intend these statements of “people who are blessed” to be life goals, or did he have something else in mind?
In the month of February, we’re going to ask two important questions – “what makes for the good life?” and “what makes a good person?”
What do you think?
